Re-consultation on future of Wennington Hall School, Lancaster.

New Search

Purpose This consultation is about the future of Wennington Hall School, Wennington, Lancaster, a community residential special school for pupils with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.

It is proposed that Lancashire County Council should discontinue its maintenance of Wennington Hall School on 31st August 2021. The Department for Education requires the Local Authority to follow the statutory procedures for discontinuance, but it should be noted that a procurement process has already begun within the independent sector which intends to meet the objectives of providing:

- education for the young people on roll from 1 September 2021, either at Wennington Hall School or other Department for Education registered site(s), where that site will deliver improved education provision and will not entail a greater travel requirement than to the current site.

- a lease of the premises to the successful tender, with a transfer of ownership of the Wennington Hall School property along with all associated liabilities.

- utilisation of the Wennington Hall School site for specialist education provision and/or children's social care provision for a minimum of seven years, from the service commencement date to meet market need.
