Proposal to increase special school places at Applebee Wood School

New Search

Purpose Applebee Wood Community Specialist School is a special school for pupils with generic learning difficulties, catering for pupils aged 4-16. The proposal is to expand the school by creating 20 places in accommodation on the school site.

We will do this by creating additional places on the Applebee Wood Community Specialist School site.

Children and young people already on the roll at Applebee Wood Community Specialist School will still be able to attend the school and should not experience any change in class size because of the increase to approved numbers.

The school will receive additional funding from the Special Educational needs high needs block to provide support for any additional pupils that join the school, in line with the funding for places at specialist schools. This means the school will not be financially disadvantaged by the proposed expansion.
We have considered the options for increasing the number of special school places in the Preston area with the head teachers of the special schools in that area.

We have discussed this proposal with the headteachers and governors of Applebee Wood Community Specialist School. Careful consideration will be given to all responses that are received on or before 28th April 2023.

These responses will be used to inform us how to develop this proposal, ready for a formal consultation that is needed to make a change like this to a school.
