Formal consultation on proposal for Bleasdale Primary School

New Search

Purpose What are we planning to do?
Bleasdale School is a special school for pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties, catering for pupils aged 2-19. The proposal is to expand the school over-time by creating up to 14 additional places in existing classes on the main school site and redesignate the school.

Why are we doing this?
To make sure we have enough special school places for all children and young people with special educational needs.
All special schools in Lancashire are over-subscribed and around 400 more places in special schools will be needed over the next four years.

How will we do this?
By creating additional places on the Bleasdale School site, children and young people already on the roll at Bleasdale School will still be able to attend the school.
The school will receive additional funding from the Special Educational needs high needs block to provide support for any additional pupils that join the school, in line with the funding for places at specialist schools. This means the school will not be financially disadvantaged by the proposed expansion.

What will happen next?
Careful consideration will be given to all responses that are received on or before 26 June 2024.
These responses will be used to provide information to Lancashire County Council's Cabinet to help councillors decide whether to agree to the increase in school numbers.
